Can I claim for surgical corsets, braces or trusses via Extras cover?

To claim for surgical corsets, braces or trusses you need to be on Top Extras with any applicable waiting period served.

You may be able to claim towards the purchase of devices that are:

  • Custom-made or fitted
  • To treat a medical condition post-surgery or prevent the need for surgery.

Other items that could be claimable include:

  • CAM boot
  • CAM walker
  • Aircast boot
  • Dynacast boot
  • VACOped boot
  • Hip protectors

You can’t claim towards products that are:

  • Off-the-shelf
  • Purchased in a retail store.

When submitting your claim, please include:

  • Completed Aids and Appliances form signed by your health practitioner* (this will be valid for 12 months, after which you'll need to submit another form to claim this benefit)
  • Itemised tax invoice that shows the name of the patient (i.e. the person who’ll be using the product).

Like most services under the Artificial Aids & Appliances benefit, Surgical corsets, braces or trusses has an annual sub-limit.
