Extras cover
Why get Extras cover?
Extras can help with the cost of everyday healthcare – things Medicare generally doesn’t pay for, like dental checks, glasses, physio, or chiro.
Our Extras health cover can also work in tandem with Hospital cover, such as seeing a dietitian during cancer treatment. Or during recovery, like speech therapy after a stroke.
When considering Extras… it’s also good to know Teachers Health was recognised for value for money and outstanding customer satisfaction for Extras cover in the Mozo People's Choice Awards 2023.
Something Extra for a Healthy Lifestyle
Teachers Health Extras cover includes a Healthy Lifestyle benefit, which you can use towards the cost of a service that may help improve a health condition. This could be your gym membership, personal training sessions, or an online weight management program^.

What’s right for you?
Consider which services you’re likely to need, now and in the near future, and how often you might need them. You can also compare your Extras cover with ours to see what’s included.
If you have any questions about Extras cover, we’re here to answer them on 1300 727 538.
How do waiting periods work?
To keep health insurance fair for everyone, you may need to wait for a while before you can claim.
This can happen if you’re new to private health insurance, upgrade your cover to include things you weren’t covered for before, or you upgrade your cover when joining us from another health fund.
If you’re switching to Teachers Health from another fund, join us within 60 days to avoid re-serving any applicable waiting periods.
^To claim this benefit, in most cases you’ll need a health/medical professional to complete the Healthy Lifestyle program form to confirm the service you’re claiming for is to improve a specific health condition.
*What does Basic Plus mean? 'Basic' tells you which hospital insurance tier the cover sits in. The tiers were introduced by the government to make it easier to compare cover. If we’ve added a ‘Plus’, the cover includes more than the minimum services that have to be in that tier.
