How to claim Extras
Depending on the service and providers, you can claim in person, from your online account or by completing a claim form.
In person
If your provider has a HICAPS terminal, tap your digital membership card, or ask them to swipe your membership card. If your claim’s approved, you’ll only pay the difference between what you get from us and the total cost on the spot.

Before you start
- Do you have the right receipt? Here's what information needs to show in your receipt
- Is your claim within 2 years?
- Have you already claimed through Medicare?
For hospital claims, some services require you to claim through Medicare first. Learn about hospital claims
Steps
In either Online Member Services or the My Teachers Health app:
- Select Make a claim
- Start my claim
- Choose the person the claim is for
- Select the category that describes your claim
- If there is a form required for your claim that's signed by your doctor or health practitioner, you'll be able to download it and/or upload during the claim process online
- Upload up to 3 receipt(s) or documents that are images (JPG, JPEG, PNG) or PDFs. They must be less than 5.0 MB in size
- Review the details of your claim, then Agree & submit
Make a claim towards travel expenses
Eligible members can submit supporting documentation from their online account.
Write ‘travel expense claim’ on your supporting document(s). This is so we know you’re claiming for travel, not the health practitioner’s fees. Then, upload to the My Teachers Health app or Online Member Services.

Frequently asked questions
When uploading a receipt, I get ‘File too large’ - how do I fix this?
High-resolution scans can exceed limits. A clear, close photo usually works best (where the receipt fills the camera frame). You can also try selecting an existing photo from your library.
How do I know if my claim was submitted?
After you submit a claim, you’ll see a confirmation on screen and receive an email. It may take a short time before it appears in your claims history.
How do I make a claim for hearing aids or audiology?
When asked what are you claiming for, choose the category Artificial aids. You’ll be able to download and upload the form online. See Claiming for artificial aids & appliances for essential information to help make claiming simpler.
Do I need a Healthy Lifestyle Program form to claim gym fees and how long is it valid?
Some claims (like gym fees) may require a Healthy Lifestyle Program form that needs to be renewed every two years. Check your cover to see if a form is needed. If your form has expired, upload a new one with your claim.
