Yalda Abawai, a student from Fairfield High School, has been awarded the Public Education Foundation’s Teachers Health National Tertiary Scholarship. A self-motivated learner and leader, Yalda is passionate about pursuing a career in teaching.

The gift of learning
The scholarship provides financial support for students with demonstrated merit (who are facing hardship) to realise their career goals. It enables them to continue studying either at TAFE or a public university after completing year 12.
For Yalda, this is a double degree in Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary) at the Australian Catholic University.
“This is an invaluable opportunity that will allow me to focus on my studies without the constant worry of financial constraints. I can fully commit to my education and future career as a teacher which is just so exciting”, she said.
“I’m looking forward to thriving in a university environment and the doors that are opened for me via this scholarship will definitely go a long way to helping me reach my goals”.
Funding a brighter future
Teachers Health Group CEO Brad Joyce emphasised the importance of identifying and investing in students like Yalda.
