28 January 2026
Sydney, Wednesday 28 January 2026: Teachers Health Group (THG) today announced the appointment of Simone Tregeagle as its next Chief Executive Officer, marking an important new chapter for Australia’s largest industry-based health fund.
The internal appointment of Simone, current Chief Customer Officer, will see her step into the role on 1 July this year following the planned retirement of Brad Joyce who has led the organisation for the past 20 years.
Simone brings nearly 30 years of proven leadership in the private health insurance sector. Having held senior roles across Australia’s mutual and not-for-profit health insurance sector, including as CEO of RT Health and Transport Health, Simone has led organisations through substantial transformation, complex integrations and cultural renewal — all while maintaining a clear focus on operational excellence, financial performance and strengthening member outcomes.
Teachers Health Group Board Chair, Maree O’Halloran, said the Board was proud to appoint a leader who brings deep organisational knowledge, strong relationships across the education and healthcare communities and a clear vision for THG’s future.
“Simone’s appointment reflects the Board’s commitment to continuity, stability and member-focused leadership,” O’Halloran said.
“To date, Simone has been instrumental in shaping our strategy, strengthening our operations and ensuring we continue delivering value for our members. Her extensive knowledge of the organisation, strong commitment to our members and proven leadership across key strategic initiatives make her the right person
to guide us into our next chapter.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to Brad Joyce for his two decades of outstanding leadership”, continued O’Halloran. “Brad has led the organisation through a period of remarkable growth and operational transformation – positioning THG as a trusted and leading private health insurer”.
“Brad has always led with integrity, empathy and a genuine belief in the importance of supporting the education and nursing & midwifery communities. We are deeply grateful for his exceptional contribution and wish him a wonderful retirement”.
Current CEO, Brad Joyce, says Simone’s appointment ensures continuity and stability mixed with fresh thinking, a new energy and impetus for change.
“Throughout her time at Teachers Health Group, Simone has displayed her passion for innovation, whilst at the same time unwavering dedication and commitment to the stakeholder communities Teachers Health Group serves,” said Joyce.
“Simone’s impact has seen the delivery of a high-quality experience for Teachers Health Group members across the customer journey, a significant uplift in customer satisfaction, operational and financial performance and creation of strategic value for the organisation.
“I have every confidence Simone will continue to respect Teachers Health’s important foundations, enduring principles and legacy but at the same time propel the organisation forward into the future” concluded Joyce.
Simone Tregeagle expressed her pride in leading an organisation with a rich legacy and a deep sense of purpose.
“It is an honour to be appointed CEO of Teachers Health Group” says Tregeagle. “For more than 70 years, this organisation has existed to serve its members, grounded in a strong mutual, union and not-for-profit ethos and a commitment to fairness, integrity and member value. That purpose has never felt more relevant.
“I have a deep affinity with the brand and its heritage and great respect for everything that has been achieved over decades”continued Tregeagle. “I would like to acknowledge and thank Brad Joyce for his leadership which has strengthened the organisation, built capability and trust and positioned it well for the future.
“Looking ahead, I am excited by the organisation's trajectory and the opportunities in front of us. My focus is on building thoughtfully on a strong foundation while ensuring the organisation remains resilient, relevant and values led as it continues to delivery longterm value for the members and communities it serves” concluded Tregeagle.
Simone will begin as CEO of Teachers Health Group effective 1 July 2026.
