We've joined forces with Teachers Health

Teachers Union Health (TUH) has officially joined Teachers Health Group (Teachers Health), bringing together two health funds with a long history of supporting the education community and their families (more than 120 years combined!).

Like TUH, Teachers Health is a not-for-profit, union-based health fund that shares similar values, stakeholders, and a strong connection to the education community. Together, we are the only health fund in Australia dedicated to supporting the educators. .

Here are just some of the reasons TUH chose to join forces with Teachers Health:

We’re for teachers

We’re for teachers

Both funds were established by unions committed to delivering the best health outcomes for education staff and their families.

Frequently asked questions

Why did TUH undertake a merger?

With members at the heart of everything we do, we opted to join forces with Teachers Health to secure and strengthen both health funds for the long term.

Together, we cover nearly 500,000 lives - a larger membership base that will give us the scale to better navigate challenges and compete in a changing market.

As one fund, we’ll be better positioned to maintain high-value health cover, with enhanced benefits and greater value.

When will the merger take effect?

The merger took effect 1 July 2025.

Why Teachers Health?

We chose Teachers Health because, like us, they’re a member-focused, not-for-profit health fund. And for over 70 years, they’ve supported the health needs of those in our community who are dedicated to helping others.

We share similar values, stakeholders, and a strong connection to the education community.

By coming together, we united the only two health funds in Australia dedicated to teachers and education staff. With a stronger national presence, we have cemented our position as Australia’s sixth-largest health fund and the largest not-for-profit, industry-based fund.

What does the merger mean for TUH members?

This merger will ensure the long-term sustainability of TUH and provide a number of benefits for our members, including:

  • Reducing the waiting period for pregnancy claims to just 9 months
  • Extending cover for young adults by increasing the adult dependent age to 32
  • Allowing apprentices, trainees, and cadets to stay on their parents’ cover until they turn 32

Will the TUH brand remain?

There will be no immediate change to the TUH identity. However, it is expected TUH will eventually change to Teachers Health.

Who is Teachers Health?

Teachers Health was established by the NSW Teachers Federation over 70 years ago to provide cost-effective health insurance for the Australian education community.

Before its merger with TUH, it supported the health and wellbeing of more than 400,000 people in the education community, creating the largest industry-based fund in Australia.
