Frequently asked questions

Updated: 16 March 2026

Our agreement with Macquarie Health Corporation – which operates hospitals under Macquarie Hospital Services (MHS) and the Independent Private Hospitals of Australia (IPHoA) – ended midnight on 16 March 2026.

Before each hospital contract ends, we start negotiating a new one that provides value for our members. This includes resisting unfair increases in charges, which could impact your premiums.

Unfortunately, during the renegotiations, Macquarie Health Corporation chose to terminate their agreement with us.

We’re sincerely sorry for any impact this outcome may have on you.

Which hospitals are included?

The Macquarie Health Corporation operates 11 hospitals across NSW and Victoria:

  • Delmar Private Hospital – Dee Why, NSW
  • Eastern Suburbs Private Hospital – Randwick, NSW
  • Essendon Private Clinic – Essendon West, Vic
  • Holroyd Private Hospital – Guildford, NSW
  • Longueville Private Hospital – Longueville, NSW
  • Malvern Private Hospital – Malvern East, Vic
  • Manly Waters Private Hospital – Manly, NSW
  • Minchinbury Community Private Hospital – Rooty Hill, NSW
  • President Private Hospital – Kirrawee, NSW
  • The Melbourne Eastern Private Hospital – Boronia, Vic
  • The Sydney Private Hospital – Ashfield, NSW

Please note, Macquarie Hospital Services doesn’t include the Macquarie Hospital or Macquarie University Hospital in NSW.

What does this change mean?

The agreement is the contract we have with a private hospital (or hospital group). When you're admitted to an ‘agreement hospital’ for a service you’re covered for, we pay for the hospital costs – things like accommodation, operating theatres, meals and nursing (excluding any excess).

How the end of this agreement impacts you will depend on your situation.

I’ve booked treatment at one of these hospitals. What happens now?

We’ll still cover hospital costs if your admission was pre-booked on or before 16 March 2026 for an admission on or before 16 September 2026.

An emergency admission up to and including 16 June 2026 will also still be covered.

I'm already being treated at one of these hospitals. Can I continue?

There’s no change for ongoing courses of treatment (that’s already started) up until and including 16 September 2026.

If your treatment is scheduled past 16 September 2026, please speak to your specialist about alternative hospitals.

Can I still claim for treatment at these hospitals?

You can still claim for admissions at Macquarie Health Corporation hospitals, but as with any non-agreement hospital treatment you may have significant out-of-pocket costs.

The hospital would need to explain these to you and get your informed financial consent (in writing) to those charges.

Alternatively, you may want to seek treatment at a hospital we do have an agreement with. This can help you access a high standard of care with minimal out-of-pocket costs.
