Claim using iPhone or Apple Watch

With Apple Wallet, your membership card is available on the device you have with you every day. It’s easy to claim with a tap of your phone or Apple Watch. Open or download the My Teachers Health app and add your card to Apple Wallet.

Add your card to Apple Wallet

  1. Open or download the My Teachers Health app on your iPhone
  2. Tap Digital card on the Home screen
  3. Tap Add to Apple Wallet and follow the prompts. In Apple Wallet, your card appears as a 'pass'

Apple Watch

Once your card has been added to your iPhone, it will automatically sync to your Apple Watch.

Use your digital card to make a claim

To make a claim with your iPhone or Apple Watch:

  1. On iPhone with Face ID or Apple Watch, double-click the side-button. On iPhone with Touch ID, double-click the Home Button from the Lock Screen
  2. Open the pass in Apple Wallet by selecting your digital membership card  Ios9 Wallet Icon
  3. Hold your device near the HICAPS machine  Contactlesslogo 

If you have multiple members on your card

When viewing the pass, you can find the IRN (position number) under People covered. Tap the More Contactlesslogo button, then Pass details or check it in the My Teachers Health app.

And remember, you can use Apple Pay for any gap payments if the provider accepts card payments.

Use your digital card to make a claim

  1. Make sure your phone supports NFC and that it's turned on:
    1. Open the Settings app on your phone
    2. Tap Connected devices (on some models it may appear as Connections or Network & Internet)
    3. Select Connection preferences
    4. Look for NFC in the list. If you see it, your phone supports NFC. Make sure it's enabled
  2. Log in to the My Teachers Health app
  3. Hold your phone near your provider’s HICAPS machine to make a claim

Apple Wallet

Where can I use the digital membership card in Apple Wallet?

You can use the digital membership card to make Extras claims in person at any HICAPS machine. If you're unsure, ask the provider.

Is the digital membership card in Apple Wallet secure?

Yes. Your digital card is encrypted on your device and protected by a passcode. Your membership number is also encrypted when it is securely transmitted from your device to the reader. Apple doesn’t track when you add or use your card to make a claim. Find out more at support.apple.com/en-au/HT203027

What should I do if I lose my device?

If you need to disable the pass, contact Teachers Health, and use Apple Find My to mark your device as lost or remotely erase your device. Find out more at support.apple.com/en-au/HT201472

How can I pay for the gap payment using Apple Pay?

Add a payment card from your bank or card company to Apple Pay using the Wallet app. You can then make any gap payments using Apple Pay. Find out more at support.apple.com/en-au/HT201239

What if I’m experiencing technical difficulties?

Having trouble using your digital card?  

  • Make sure your device supports NFC and NFC is enabled – this is needed to use your card.  
  • Your phone needs to be unlocked to use your digital card.  
  • You must be logged in to our app on your device to use your card (our app doesn’t have to be open when claiming, however – your device just needs to be unlocked).  
  • Our app needs to be the only health insurance app with a digital card installed on your device to use your digital membership card. 
  • Check your device settings to make sure digital cards aren’t disabled.
