Cash and cheque payment updates

From 1 August, we'll be unable to take premium payments by cash or cheque.

This streamlining of our services (following on from no longer using cheques for benefit payments) ensures we’re providing secure, simple and modern payment methods, while also aligning with the government's plan to phase out cheques.

Here you'll find step-by-step guides to setting up an alternate payment method, and more information about why we've made this change.

What are my other payment options?

You can pay your premiums by:

BPAY

Make payments from a credit card or bank account via BPAY, using your phone, online or via mobile banking. You’ll need your Customer Reference Number (CRN), which is on your invoice.

Why can't I pay by cash or cheque anymore?

Cash payments

We appreciate that cash payments ending may be an unwelcome change for members who are used to paying their premiums this way.

While the government has taken steps to ensure Australians can continue to pay with cash at larger supermarkets and fuel retailers, other organisations can choose not to accept cash payments.

Our decision reflects the fact that the vast majority of premium payments are now made via direct debit, online (e.g. BPAY), or by debit/credit card. By comparison, cash payments have become (relatively) less efficient and secure.

If you’d like help moving to another payment method, please don't hesitate to call us on 1300 727 538 Monday to Thursday 8am – 7pm, Friday 8am – 6pm, Saturday 8:30am – 12:30pm AEST.

Cheque payments

We began phasing out cheques in 2024, when we stopped issuing them for claims payments. Ending cheque premium payments is the final part of this process.

Like many organisations, we’ve taken these steps ahead of the Australian Government’s national cheque phase-out – scheduled to complete in 2029.
